Family Kite Day - April 28 and 29

Get Kite Krazy at FAMILY KITE DAY!

String up your kite on Sunday, April 29th at 1 p.m. at the Benny Altamirano Sports Complex on 32nd St Bypass-keep to the left to the soccer fields. Prizes for an array of categories will be awarded: Highest Flier, most creative kite, longest tail, most original kite, and more! Don't be left out--sign up for your age group to show off your kite flying prowess.

A free kite-making workshop, with international kite-maker Rick Miller, will be offered Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. at the Silver City Recreation Center. Paper kites will be provided for younger children to paint, while older children can join Miller to create their own personal kite to fly. Spaces are limited so early register for the kitemaking class by calling Kendra at 388-1198.

Silver City, NM is the home of the American Kitefliers Association, founded by Robert M. Ingraham in 1964. Come celebrate the April winds with us. This event is part of the Health Council's Four Seasons of Fun, bringing family friendly events to each season of the year.

Bring your picnic blankets and food. Bring your kites and kids for a fanciful afternoon of kite flying. Last year, over 300 kite fliers joined the competition. Fliers from 3 to 98 years old competed. Competitions start at 2 p.m.
