What We Believe

"What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." - A.W. Tozer

What we believe

The following are the core beliefs of Grace Community Church of Hopkins Co. based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

Discipleship in community

The Bible is the very word of God and the sole authority for all things pertaining to life and Godliness. In obedience to Christ’s command in the great commission, it is our aim to spread the good news of the Gospel and build up the local body of believers through discipleship relationships which are focused around teaching and walking together in obedience to God’s word.

We are a reformed church

We are a theologically reformed church in the sense that we hold to the core doctrines of the Protestant faith. We affirm the Five Solas of the Reformation and the five points of Calvinism, although we may differ with the reformers and Calvin on secondary theological issues. We hold the word of God above all else, and accordingly do not assign ourselves to any specific creed or confession, but we do recognize their usefulness in summarizing and teaching doctrine.

what we affirm about god

There is one true and living God, who exists in and of Himself in eternal Trinity. The Godhead is of one essence, displayed in three distinct Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit who are co-existent and co-equal in glory and attributes. God is the creator, sustainer, and sovereign Lord over all things, both seen and unseen.

what we affirm about the bible

The Bible is the full and complete record of revelation from God. It is the very word of God, given by the superintending work of the Holy Spirit though the process of inspiration. We affirm the content of the 1978 Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy. The Bible is fully sufficient to equip all believers for every good work.

what we affirm about the church

The Church is the bride of Christ, bought with His precious blood. The Church is comprised of all those, past, present, and future, who have been chosen by God for salvation. God’s people are commanded to gather together as a local assembly of believers, led by a plurality of qualified elders, for corporate worship and the edification of the body through discipleship.

what we affirm about salvation

Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone. Salvation was planned by the Father, purchased by the Son and is applied to believers by the Holy Spirit through the free and unmerited gifts of faith in Christ and repentance of sins. Every believer was predestined by God for salvation in eternity past, is called to salvation in the course of time, is justified before God at the moment of salvation, and will one day be glorified in His presence, according to the golden chain of Romans 8:30.

what we affirm about man

Man was created in the image and likeness of God; therefore, every human life is to be treated as sacred. In Adam’s deliberate disobedience toward God, the entire human race fell into sin. The sin nature is inherited by all people from the moment of conception. The heart of man is wicked by nature, opposed to God, and unable to desire Him. Apart from the original sin of Adam, we are guilty of our own sinful deeds. God has established the order of male headship in the family and in the church. Men and women are equal in the dignity and importance of their God-ordained roles and equally loved by God as fellow heirs of grace.
